There are all sorts of Star Wars related objects out there, but we're willing to bet not even one of them is cooler than this X-Wing car built by Hot Wheels and Mettel.
We've seen the guy who built a full-size AT-ST Walker, but sadly it wasn't actually operational, so he fails to rise over the X-Wing car. Then there's the Darth Vader car Hot Wheels made last year, but that's a bit too funny-looking compared to the sinister character it references to. Nope, you just can't beat the X-Wing car, and we might as well accept it.

Mind you, this would be an excellent vehicle even without the link to George Lucas' film. Don't believe us? Take these images and show them to a five-year-old kid who knows nothing about Star Wars (goog luck finding him). If he doesn't say "cool!" we'll take out the keys on our laptops and eat them. In alphabetical order.

Looking at the X-Wing, it's easy to see why converting its design into a car wasn't all that difficult. Even though it spends most of its time flying through the void of deep space, its hull still pays tribute to the laws of aerodynamics. Had it been the Imperial TIE Fighter in its place, we would have been looking at something a lot less pleasing on the eye.

The X-Wing is almost a natural for a land vehicle conversion. Its cockpit canopy makes you think of modern jet fighters (or Lamborghinis) while that long hood is reminiscent of a dragster. It's the kind of vehicle that inspires speed even while standing still, which is in no small part due to its resemblance to a Formula One car. The fact it comes equipped with blasters and jet engines helps as well, but we can't believe they didn't also include an R2-D2 replica.

This car marks the launch of a new Hot Wheels line of products called Carships, which as the name suggests are a mixture of cars and ships. It has been built for this year's San Diego Comic-Con, the same event Hot Wheels had the Darth Vader car made for in 2015. The vehicle is fully functional with power coming from a 2.0-liter Ford engine, but there's no word on any performance figures. The only thing Hot Wheels let slip is that it can produce 950 pounds of downforce at 165 mph, which we suppose would suggest the X-Wing car is capable of reaching that speed.
