Honda New Small Concept Makes Indian Debut

The onslaught of small vehicles began these days in New Delhi, at the 2010 Auto Expo, with car manufacturers around the world displaying their smallest cars, the ones aimed to tackle emerging markets and the ongoing recession.

In Honda's corner, the star of the lineup was the oddly named New Small Concept, a car which will eventually turn into a car specially aimed for India and other emerging nations. Unfortunately, not many technical details were made available by the Japanese carmaker.

"We are delighted to unveil the Honda New Small Concept at the 10th Auto Expo. India has been the hub for the compact car segment and is also the lead country for our research and development work on the New Small Concept. The new model based on this concept will be a global car with features to suit the needs of India customers. We plan to launch this car by 2011,” Koichi Kondo, Honda executive vice president said at
the event.

The car was developed at Honda’s Automobile R&D Center in Japan and is designed as a 5 seater family car, packed in an alleged futuristic design with maximum cabin space. It uses a wide platform with a stable center of gravity to enhance cabin space and insure its efficiency.

It is the first time ever when the Japanese carmaker chose to unveil a car in India.

This is a remarkable occasion for Honda as we unveil the Honda New Small Concept to the world. India is a focus market for Honda and the World Premier of the New Small Concept at the Auto Expo is a testimony to this fact,” Kondo added.
