Honda is sending a letter to its dealers telling them not to sell some cars until they complete a recall to fix an air bag defect, which has already caused to 18 injuries and two deaths. The fault lies with the drive-side airbag, which can deploy with too much force and send metal shards into the driver.
US regulations state these cars can’t be sold as they are, so the recall has to be carried out to fix the problem first. This only applies to new cars, but Honda has decided to put safety first and apply the rule to the used models as well. The recalls cover 2001-2002 Honda Accord models, 2001-2003 Civic and Odyssey models, 2002-2003 CR-V, 2003 Pilot, 2002-2003 Acura TL and the 2003 Acura CL.
“Some vehicles affected by this campaign may be in your used vehicle inventory. These vehicles must be repaired before they are sold,” Honda and Acura dealers are being told.
