As is the custom in the automotive world, Japanese manufacturer Honda awarded yesterday its best suppliers, with a total of 53 OEM suppliers and 64 Service Parts suppliers receiving Honda's recongnition.
"Our suppliers had to make critical adjustments, but never lost sight of their customers," Bob Nelson, the man who oversees Honda's North American purchasing said. "Many of our suppliers have developed a sustainable business approach by strengthening their operations and achieving sound financial performance."
Among those awarded for their work with Honda we find Marion Industries and Elesys North America, both winning three awards. The winners were hard to pick by Honda, as the carmaker works with no less than 600 local American partners.
The criteria on which Honda based its decision included performance in quality, cost, and delivery (for parts suppliers) and even social responsibility (health, safety, equal opportunity, government relations, community involvement, ethics and compliance, and the environment) when it comes to OEMs.
"I want to thank you for your efforts to meet our delivery goals," Bruce Smith, vice president of Honda's parts division, told suppliers.
"You have worked hard over the past year to improve your service parts business, and while there continue to be opportunities for improvement, it is clear that you are focused on achieving the objectives that have the most impact on our customers."
Currently, the 600 suppliers work with 14 manufacturing facilities in North America. Honda says it purchased from suppliers last year, one of the worst in the automotive industry, no less than $13.3 billion worth of parts.
