Hirvonen to Treat Rally GB Like Any Other WRC Event

Heading to the season finale with only a one-point advantage over Sebastien Loeb, Ford's Mikko Hirvonen will today begin his preparation for the most important event in his rallying career so far, the upcoming Rally Great Britain. The Finnish driver is set on test-driving the Ford Focus RS WRC 09 until tomorrow evening, after which he is due at the start line of the Cambrian Rally.

Sebastien Loeb is also expected to make the entry list of this weekend's event at Llandudno, as this would be a great preparation for next week's Rally GB. The Frenchman already tested the C4 on the gravel roads of Wales last week and it's unlikely that he'll miss this opportunity to take the pulse of his title rival prior to the official start of the British rally.

Although he is for the first time in the position to actually hope for a championship crown in the WRC, the Ford works driver showed little signs of emotion when asked about the upcoming Rally GB, revealing that he will approach the season finale with a lot of calm and confidence.

To be honest, I haven't been thinking about it much. I'm sure I will think more now, but it's another rally for Jarmo (Lehtinen) and I and that's how we will treat it,” said Hirvonen, according to British website Autosport.com.

The Cambrian will be good for me. It will be a chance to get back into driving on gravel in competition after being in Catalunya. That's all it is. That's the only thing which is different from any other pre-event test. Everything else is normal. I left home yesterday and I'm gone for two weeks. I won't be home until this battle is all done,” added the Ford driver.

Following the Cambrian Rally this weekend, both Hirvonen and Loeb will head south of Cardiff for the Rally GB 2-day recce.
