A video shared by the RSPCA, showing a heartless man abandoning a dog by the roadside and then driving away as the pup desperately chased after the car, has gone viral.
The video was actually recorded on December 17 but was only made public by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on December 25. The man is still wanted by the RSPCA and the police, while the dog, named Snoop, has been placed in a kennel where he’s being properly taken care of.

Caught by surveillance cameras in Stoke-on-Trent in England, the man pulled over the car and came out of it, walking to the other side of the road with a dog bed, which he left on the ground. He then retrieved the dog from the car and led it to the bed, where he left it.

The man ran back to the car and locked himself inside, while the pup desperately tried to get back in, lifting itself on its rear legs to scratch at the window and even running in circles around the vehicle. When the car drives off, he chases after it, still wagging its tail.

“This is heartbreaking, it's the way he runs after the owner; he clearly loved who was there. He was obviously distressed,” RSPCA inspector Natalie Perehovsky tells The Sun of the video that’s been making the rounds.

“I don't know what was going through their mind when they did that. It could be the expense, it could be family changes, there's hundreds of reasons,” Perehovsky adds. “But there's places that help people, you can take him to charities or dog homes; there's no excuse.”

The BBC reports that, shortly after the story went viral, calls started pouring in with offers to rehome Snoop, as the dog was named by its rescuers. However, while the investigation into the abandonment is underway, the RSPCA can’t rehome the pup. Snoop is in a kennel, having a blast – and will be rehomed once the former owner has been tracked and duly fined for the way he abandoned his pet.

There is a happy ending to some stories, after all.
