Hear The Last Mercedes-Benz F1 V8 Engine Sing at 18,000 Rpm

The resulting video had everything that an old-school petrolhead would ever need to maybe even shed a tear. Everything but the actual sound of the naturally-aspirated V8 revving into oblivion. OK, “just” into about 18,000 rom, but you get the point.

Well, as it turns out, Mercedes-AMG decided to make us feel even worse via their official YouTube channel by uploading a video of the 2.4-liter V8 being stress-tested on an engine stand and the soundtrack will probably haunt us the entire 2014 Formula 1 season.

As you know, from 2014 we will be treated with the somewhat underwhelming sound of turbocharged V6 engines in Formula 1, courtesy of a new FIA ruling.

We get that everything was done in the spirit of technological progress and to save the ozone layer, the rain forests and so on, but you have to admit that the new engines are pretty much crap in terms of providing audio pleasure compared to what you can hear in the video bellow, which in turn sounds a little bit worse than the 20,000 rpm V10s from about a decade ago.
