Head of Mercedes-Benz Powertrain Retires

German carmaker Mercedes-Benz announced today the end of a 32 career within the company of Volker Stauch, head of Powertrain Operations Mercedes-Benz Cars and head of the Unterturkheim plant.

The Daimler official will retire at the end of June, after being in charge of the Unterturkheim plant for the last 11 years. He became head of Powertrain Operations in 2006, when all engine and transmission activities were combined into a single entity.

During his reign, the facility evolved by rebuilding the iron foundry (2001), expanding the plant for V6 and V8 engines in Bad Cannstatt and the opening of the Mercedes-Benz Museum.

"Volker Stauch played a decisive role in not only shaping both the Untertürkheim site and our Powertrain Operations network, but also in determining their future direction and competitiveness in the long term. On behalf of the entire board, I would like to thank him most sincerely for his outstanding commitment, and also for the very significant contribution which he has made to the success of the company over many years," Wolfgang Bernhard, Daimler member of the board of in charge of Production and Procurement.

Stauch will be replaced by Peter Schabert, currently head of the Mercedes-Benz plant in Bremen. Schabert also worked at the Unterturkheim facility as head of engine production.

"We also wish Volker Stauch all the very best as he enters into this new chapter in his life after more than three decades with Daimler," added Bernhard.
