Hamilton Unhappy with China Driving

Lewis Hamilton was not at all happy with his driving on Sunday, during the Chinese Grand Prix. Although he is known as a rain specialist, the reigning world champion's performance at Shanghai featured several spins that turned his efforts to challenge for the podium into dust.

“It was a very tough race - the visibility, particularly at the start of the race, was really terrible - you could hardly see anything - but then things got a little better. It's just a pity that I had a couple of spins. I love driving in the rain but I definitely didn't drive as well as I could on Sunday. Afterwards, people were congratulating me on a good performance, but overall I was a bit dissatisfied with my race,” wrote Hamilton on his personal website.

The McLaren MP4-24 showed some impressive pace throughout the Chinese weekend – as compared to the previous grands prix – with Hamilton clinching the top spot in the first practice session on Friday. Hamilton's car was fitted with an interim rear diffuser which certainly added to the car's good behavior, as he later powered to Q3 for the first time this season.

Hamilton argued that, without the driving mistakes on Sunday, he could have finally recorded McLaren's first podium this season. Instead, he finished 6th overall, behind teammate Heikki Kovalainen. Nevertheless, he stressed out the obvious gain in performances for the MP4-24, which he hopes to translate into a great result in Bahrain.

“It was good for the team to get both cars into the points, but I felt that I should have done better: I was running as high as fifth before spinning in the early laps and, looking at how the race panned out, I feel pretty certain I could have been nearer the front challenging for a podium.”

“We should have a few new components at Bahrain so I hope we'll continue with our progress. As long as we are moving forwards, it makes it all the more worthwhile and rewarding,” added the McLaren driver.
