Hamilton's Father Wants Raikkonen at McLaren

Kimi Raikkonen's potential return to McLaren received another boost during the course of this week, as the father and manager of 2008 F1 champion Lewis Hamilton admitted he'd like the Finn in the second McLaren seat next year.

When asked to share his thought on the move, Hamilton Snr. admitted that he would like Kimi to join his son in McLaren's title bid next season. Although he has nothing against Ham's current teammate Heikki Kovalainen, Anthony Hamilton would prefer the former Ferrari-an because it will also push his son to the limit in 2010.

First, I want to say that neither Lewis nor myself have any influence on the decision. But if I was deciding between Kimi and Heikki, I would go for Kimi, even if I have nothing against Heikki. We've always like him; he's a great teammate and does his job well,” Hamilton Snr. reportedly told the Finnish newspaper Turun Sanomat.

Kimi is a cool guy. I think he is the prime candidate and the best driver to be at Lewis' side in this team; they would push each other on,” added the Brit.

Raikkonen recently revealed that McLaren Mercedes would be the only team he'll drive for in Formula One, if he decides to continue his career in the series next year. With Toyota now out of the question – as they've just announced their withdrawal from F1 – and Brawn GP complaining about Kimi's high demands for a salary, Raikkonen's only choice might indeed be McLaren.

The Woking based team is yet to announce its lineup for the upcoming season, but it is expected that Kovalainen will leave the team prior to the 2010 preparations.
