Hamilton Eyed for V8 Supercar Australia Run

Lewis Hamilton might do a one-off in the Australian V8 Supercar series, although it's not certain when this will happen. The news was reported by Adelaide newspaper The Advertiser, via a statement made by Team Vodafone boss Roland Dane.

According to Dane, the 2008 Formula One champion would only be available for an outing in the Surfers Paradise endurance street race, as long as the event will not be scheduled in the same weekend as a Formula One Grand Prix. Initially, the Brit was offered the seat this year, but the Gold Coast SuperCarnivale will clash with the Korean Grand Prix in 2010.

I'd get Lewis next year if the timing is right and I can get Vodafone to come up with the dollars,” said Dane, according to the aforementioned source.

The Gold Coast SuperCarnivale is a 3-day event organized by V8 Supercar Australia, in which each of the V8 Supercar teams that normally participate in the Aussie series have to have at least one international driver in its lineup. As you all know, Vodafone are title sponsors of McLaren Mercedes F1 team, so convincing Ham to do the event won't be such a hard thing for the British sponsor.

I'd love to get Hamilton, but I'm not thinking about next year just yet,” added Dane, hinting that getting Hamilton to drive a V8 Supercar is a long shot to begin with.

Among the drivers that have already confirmed their presence in the event are Mark Blundell, Christian Fittipaldi and David Brabham. According to the GMM news agency, former F1 driver Sebastien Bourdais is also expected to attend the Gold Coast SuperCarnivale on October 22-24.
