After only three seasons in Formula 1, the Anglo-Russian outfit known as Marussia F1 entered administration over mounting financial problems. Winning a mere two Constructors' Championship points in three years of competing took its toll on the plucky team, but apparently, everything is not lost.
At the beginning of December, recurring readers may remember that we reported about the complete closure of the team's assets and headquarters in Banbury, a small city located in the Cherwell District of Oxfordshire. As it happens, the auction saw Gene Haas buy virtually everything that was offered by administrating company CA Global Partners.
With the exception racecar engines, the founder of Stewart-Haas Racing bought existing racing cars, testing laboratories, the race day trailer fleet, machinery, the corporate offices and the building itself. Racecar Engineering has learned that "Haas has also acquired the data and designs for the 2015 Marussia [racecar]."
If that bit of information holds water, it's pretty certain that Haas F1 will enter the king motorsport in the 2016 season, with the turbocharged V6 power units to come from a rather uncompetitive Ferrari team.
Furthermore, the new kid on the block also operates a new facility in North Carolina, which will act as a second base of operations next to the newly acquired Marussia F1 Team's Banbury headquarters.
Although the Marussia F1's factory was not offered at auction, Haas F1 will most certainly construct or buy an existing facility in the United Kingdom. Excepting the all-Italian Scuderia Ferrari boys, all Formula 1 teams develop their racecars in the UK, hailed as the motorsport capital of the world. If the all-American outfit will actually manage to win more points than the now defunct Marussia F1 Team, only time will tell.
