After his unfortunate crash at the Japanese Grand Prix, Jules Bianchi will be in for quite a big shock when he’ll find out Marussia F1 is no longer a team. Years of spending way more than necessary forced the outfit to get out of F1 and enter administration.
This isn’t the first time an F1 team disappeared from the sport. Red Bull Racing is built from the ashes of Jaguar Racing. It’s redundant to point out the Austrian team won both the drivers’ and Constructors’ Championship titles 4 times in a row. Even Mercedes-AMG Petronas is based on Brawn GP, and both teams are Constructors’ title winners.
In Marussia’s case, the Anglo-Russian outfit is not on par with the aforementioned and it won’t be missed. From the 2012 Australian GP until this year’s inaugural Russian Grand Prix, the team completed 55 races and won 2 points in the Formula 1 World Championship. That’s all! It’s no wonder these guys were losing money like a bad Black Jack player.
What about Marussia F1’s drivers? Well, there isn’t much to say about Jules Bianchi, Charles Pic or Max Chilton. Only Timo Glock shined a little behind the wheel, but the 2013 car didn’t help him at all. After a lot of bad management and dependency on the drivers’ sponsors, the team went bust and CA Global Partners will be auctioning off (almost) everything the Marussia F1 Team owned until recently.
At an event slated for December 16th and 17th in Oxfordshire, UK, CA Global Partners will sell what they’ve found in Marussia’s Banbury headquarters, except for racecar engines. The announcement mentions “Marussia Formula 1 racecars (no engines), complete test lab, race day trailer fleet, complete machine shop, corporate offices, large quantity of spare parts, including race day replacement parts & tools...”
