You know Guy Martin, he’s into every record he can, especially if it’s on two wheels. The latest attempt was to pedal his way through almost 5,000 miles, but a leg injury stopped him after about 800 miles in.
The 35-year-old TT legend was lately trying to break the record for the fastest cycle around the British coast on a bicycle, hoping to complete the run in 20 days, two less than the actual record.

However, according to his official page, a leg tendon injury occurred and forced him to stop “only” 800 miles into the 4,802-mile journey. Hopes are still high, but he will have to let his body heal first and try again next year.

“I badly pulled my Achilles tendon on the left side after a day or so but thought Id just get my head down and work through it,” Guy said. “I kept good miles up and got to John O’Groats from Grimsby in 4 days and 8 hours, about 800 miles.”

“But my leg was getting worse, and I thought I could keep going and maybe do the whole lot in 30 days but I knew Id be jiggered for a long time after and maybe even have serious long-term damage, which would mean I couldn’t do the serious cycle trip I’ve got in my head for next year,”
he further explained.

In case you didn’t know, Guy is quite an expert on cycling. He did over 11,000 miles this year in the saddle, including the Tour Divide in America and crossing the Taklamakan Desert, which is also known as the desert of death. Moreover, Martin says he used a bicycle to go to and come from work on most days.

The man has recently set a new speed record for the Wall of Death, hitting 78.15 mph in the cage. He also tried braking another two-wheel land-speed record aboard a Triumph streamliner but had to abandon as track conditions were not in favor of achieving it.
