Gold-plated Samand on the Streets of Tehran

Certainly you have already seen gold-plated Porsches, diamond-studded Mercedes or Swarowski-studded Lamborghinis, but the image of a gold-plated Iranian car is definitely something new.

According to PressTv.ir (via bornrich.org), a 1-million dollar Samand was spotted on the streets of Tehran after the truck carrying the car to a Caspian Sea port collided with a pick-up. The owners wanted to sell the gold-plated car to a Russian collector but their plans had to change on their way to the port.

"Plans to deliver the unique gold-plated Samand LX to a Russian buyer in complete secrecy were scraped when people started exchanging images of the car on their mobile phones," Tabnak reported on Wednesday.

Fortunately for its owners, the precious vehicle suffered no damage as it was packed in protective foam.

The masterpiece you can see for yourself in the image is the result of the work of  two goldsmiths from Isfahan who bought the car from Iran Khodro and decided to turn it into a 1 million-dollar jewel.

Apparently, the two goldsmiths got their inspiration from TV and Internet after seeing imaged of a gold-plated Porsche.

"A few months ago, we thought to ourselves we have cars and we have gold, so why not make a gold car for ourselves," Farzad Fakhreddin told Tabnak.

A French engineer, who has worked for Peugeot, helped them modify the car. The car mats were replaced by Persian carpets and Iranian artist decorated parts of the dashboard with khatam inlay.

Only the tailgate, the hood, the doors and the fenders were gold-plated as they didn't want to interfere with the vehicle's safety aspects.
