GM Starts Design Competition for US Students

Eight students in North America and five months of hard work... These two elements can be used to define the new design competition announced by American manufacturer GM at the end of last week. Set to kick off on July 1, the competition is looking to bring to life new ideas in the design of the GM iconic (and surviving) brands.

The American manufacturer will ask those studying full time at design schools in the USA and Canada (who have at least one more semester to complete after the contest ends) to create ideas of interior and exterior design starting from briefs of its four brands: Buick, Chevrolet, Cadillac and GMC.

Eight of them will be selected based on their designs and then asked and supported to hold an exhibition showing the result of their work during the first major auto event of next year, the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS).

Before getting there though, students must first register by following this link. Following this first step, they must submit their idea of interior design by June 30, while the exterior design idea must be submitted by October 31.

“Feedback and interaction are a natural part of a designer’s world, but this competition takes that to a whole new level,” said David Lyon, GM North America executive director of interior design.” The entire design community can help push and guide the creativity of the students, and I’m really excited to see what will result. This competition format keeps GM at the forefront of innovation in the design process."
