GM Offers New 350/290 HP Deluxe Crate Engine

U.S. automotive aficionados who like to spend time in their garage now have one more reason to pick up their spanners, as General Motors Performance Parts (GMPP) announced the introduction of a new 350/290 hp Deluxe crate engine.

The Deluxe version of the 5.7 liter V8 offering 290 hp at 5,250 rpm and 332 lb-ft of torque at 3,750 rpm features a high flow intake manifold, and uses chrome for the air filter, timing chain cover and breather cap. The powerplant is delivered with all the auxiliary equipment, gaskets and installation instructions. The package is marketed under the Chevrolet brand and can be yours for less than $3,000. It is recommended that builders use a Holley 670-cfm carburetor (this can also be purchased from GMPP) to reach the rated power and torque levels.

The 350/290 HP is our most popular and economical performance crate engine and the new Deluxe package enhances it with the finishing touches enthusiasts want,” said Dr. Jamie Meyer, product marketing manager for GM Performance Parts. “We’ve put it all together in a convenient crate engine that saves time and money. And keep in mind, for less than $3,000, you’re getting a brand-new, factory-engineered performance engine – not a rebuilt core.

The powerplant also uses premium components, such as a smooth hydraulic camshaft and strong aluminum pistons that deliver a 8.5:1 compression ratio. For the complete assembly of the engine, users have to purchase a set of extra parts, such as a starter motor, a distributor and spark plug wires. GMPP also offers high performance parts that can increase the V8’s performance.
