Things are going well in China, one of the largest markets for many automakers out there who got lured into this country thanks to a continuous grow in demand. Despite the global economic recession, General Motors, the former bankrupt US car manufacturer, runs high in China where it achieved the best July ever, with sales growing 77.7 percent compared to the same month of the previous year.
The company sold a total of 144,593 units which makes the last month the best July ever, as GM said in a release, "extending an uninterrupted series of single month sales records that started in January 2009". Sales in the first seven months of the year now total 959,035 vehicles, up 42.8 compared to the same period of the previous year.
"The GM family has been among the major beneficiaries of the sales momentum in China that began building in February,” said Kevin Wale, President and Managing Director of GM China. "We have additional new products on their way in the coming months that will enable us to keep up with the growing demand for high-quality personal transportation."
GM's joint ventures performed pretty well, with Shanghai GM posting an increase of 60.6 percent to 56,486. SAIC-GM-Wuling grew as well by 90.7 percent, reaching sales of 87,925 units.
As for the best-selling models, the new Buick LaCrosse sold 3,787 units in the first two weeks on the market while Chevrolet Cruze grew to 8,764 units in July, achieving its best single month since it entered the market in April. Wuling's flagship minivan, the Wuling Rong Guang, recorded strong sales of more than 20,000 units.
