GM Close to Finding New CFO, Says Whitacre

General Motors' new CEO Edward Whitacre said in a webchat that the company has narrowed down the search for a new CFO to a few persons but he already has a real good candidate for this particular position. He refused, however, to give more details on the matter.

"We have a real good candidate. Could have some news in two or three weeks," he said in a statement.

Whitacre underlined, once again, that the US task force doesn't intend to get involved into GM's decision-making process and emphasized that the recent moves belonged solely to GM's board.

"I would say on the average about once a week,"
he replied when asked how often he talks to members of the task force. "They promise to keep hands off and let the Board run the company. They've been true to their word and done exactly that...I give them high marks."

Whitacre now serves as interim GM CEO after Fritz Henderson, the man who's been in charge of the US giant for about 8 months, was dismissed after the company's monthly meeting. An official reason for this decision was not revealed but sources are indicating that the failed sales of Opel, Saab and Saturn weighed heavily in the Henderson's resignation.

Asked how long the newly appointed executives have to show positive results before getting replaced, a case similar to Henderson's, Whitacre briefly replied: "Not long." Fritz Henderson has been appointed General Motors CEO this year, after the US giant emerged from Chapter 11 protection.
