Glock: Brazil GP Accusations Were Tough to Handle

The fact that Toyota's Timo Glock had a satisfying season on his Formula 1 return is not to be denied. The German made the Top 10 at the end of the season and scored his team's best result of the season, despite having F1 veteran Jarno Trulli as teammate. However, Glock did not get to enjoy much of his last season performances following the controversial season finale in Brazil.

Only one lap to go in the Interlagos race (and the season, for that matter) Glock was easily overtaken by Lewis Hamilton for 5th place, a maneuver that brought the British driver the world title. Later on, the German revealed that he was on dry tires – as compared to Lewis' wet tires – and was only focusing on finishing the race rather than getting involved in the title race. Nevertheless, the media accused Glock of deliberately letting the McLaren driver pass him on his way to the F1 title.

“When I saw everyone's reaction it was very tough and difficult to understand. Even the next two weeks were really hard. It was like driving on ice but still it was the right decision because it meant I finished one position higher than if I had changed tires. I did my own race and had no interest in getting involved in the fight for the title,” Glock was quoted as saying to Spanish radio station Onda Cero.

“Afterwards when all the journalists were coming up to me I began to wonder if Lewis going past me meant he was world champion. But during the race I had no idea of the position I was in, let alone what Hamilton and Felipe Massa were doing. I believe in Formula One and so you have to live with these things,” added the German driver.

Glock eventually finished the Interlagos round in 6th place, while teammate Trulli – who started the race from the first row – had to settle for 8th place. Both drivers favored the dry-tire strategy for the dying laps of the race, despite the heavy rain that had started less than 10 laps to go.
