Now that the dust has settled over one of the best car movies released in recent months, people are slowly starting to put behind them the adrenaline-packed story of Ford v Ferrari. Yet there are some still living on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting a sweepstakes that might land them one of the cars seen in the movie.
The car we’re talking about is a MkIII 427 Superformance Cobra. Sure, it didn’t play an essential role in the story, as it was featured mostly as a background item in the hangar where Carroll Shelby (Matt Damon) is portrayed in several scenes, but still, it is a movie-star car.

The sweepstakes that will eventually lead to someone getting the keys to this car was announced by the Cobra Experience museum in Northern California in November last year. To take part, people have to contribute to a fundraising event (more details here) that will conclude on June 6.

“Like the Cobra Experience museum, the film honors the achievements of Carroll Shelby, Ken Miles and the intrepid Shelby American team,” said in a statement at the time of the announcement Emily Lambert, Managing Director at The Cobra Experience.

"Those who participate in the drawing will have the opportunity to own an amazing piece of movie and automotive history, as well as help educate the public about the legacy of Carroll Shelby and these great cars.”

To make sure no one mistakes this particular Cobra for a lesser one, the winner will also receive a certificate of authenticity to confirm its provenance. There’s also a photo in the gallery above showing the car on the set of the movie.

But that’s not the interesting part. The museum also gives the lucky winner the chance not to enjoy their newly-won car, but go for a $50,000 prize instead.

The question is: would you do it?
