There might be some of you who haven’t heard of Ginetta, and understandably so. Nevertheless, the company is launching its new G55 GT racer based on its existing G50 coupe. The car will be presented at the Autosport International show at the NEC in Birmingham, taking place in January 2011.
The Leeds-based sportscar maker will introduce the new G55 into the world of racing alongside the G50 coupe, in order to create the Ginetta GT Supercup, a move that emulates the class structure in other worldwide GT championships such as the Le Mans Series, ALMS and British GT.
Powering the car will be the 3.5-liter V6 engine produced by Ford, that has been re-bored to 3.7-liters. The engine now produces 370 hp, which is 70 more than the 300 hp of the G50. Technical features also include a Hewland gearbox, cool-air induction kit, uprated front and rear brakes, new exhaust system and new bodywork with the focus placed on improved aerodynamics.
The scratch-built G55 will set you back some £75,000, while existing G50 owners can bring upgrades to the new car for £25k. Add to that the £9750 plus VAT you pay to enter Ginetta’s racing series as a G50 driver.
"The G50 has dominated GT4 since its launch two years ago and proved itself as a real stepping stone into the GT4 arena. By introducing the G55 into the new Ginetta GT Supercup, I want to broaden Ginetta's offering to all drivers expanding our career ladder even further and highlight a real route into GT3 - whilst still providing an affordable way to enjoy top level racing," says Ginetta boss Lawrence Tomlinson.
