One of the vehicles that really brings spring to the Geneva floor is the Mercedes-Benz SLK. So, what do the German engineers understand by “spring”? Well, the answer is not that simple: eco-friendliness, power, a “magic roof” and many others.
Mercedes SLK the Third is a vehicle that comes with a range of high-efficiency powerplants. We are talking about four- and six-cylinder units that come with a standard ECO start/stop function. The fresh powerplants bring an efficiency increase of around 25 percent, managing to do this without sacrificing performance.
The entry-level model, the SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY is a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that delivers 204 hp, managing to sprint from 0 to 62 mph in 7.0 seconds, while only emitting 142 grams of CO2 per km. This is followed by the SLK 250, which plays the 0 to 62 mpg game in 6.6 seconds and emits 144 grams of CO2 per km.
The current range-topper is the SLK 350 BlueEFFICIENCY that uses a 3.5-liter V6 that develops 306 hp. The unit allows the car to hit 62 moph in 5.6 seconds and only emits 167 grams of CO2 per km, using 3rd-generation direct injection, piezo injectors and multi-spark ignition.
The icing on the SLK cake is the panoramic vario-roof with Magic Sky Control, a toy that allows you to play with the natural light at the touch of a button. This allows you to flood the interior with light. And speaking of the interior, we have to mention that Mercedes has taken the accomodation game to another level, both in terms of design and features.
The SLK has been available for order since January, with prices starting at EUR38,675.
