The competition in the automotive industry requires periodical upgrades and retooling campaigns, especially when your name is associated with millions of recalls.
As they try to salvage what they can after the so-called 'year of the recall', GM will operate an upgrading plan for its Arlington Assembly Plant, which will hopefully produce better quality full-size SUVs.

After the money is spent and the improvement works will be over, the plant will have a new paint shop, body shop, and general assembly area upgrades.

Construction is expected to begin this summer and take approximately three years to complete. However, GM officials reassure us that production schedules for the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Yukon XL as well as Cadillac Escalade won't take a hit by the construction.

“This super-sized investment reflects GM’s commitment to our full-size SUV customers who expect nothing but the absolute best from us and their vehicles,” said Cathy Clegg, GM North America Manufacturing and Labor Relations vice president. “Today’s investment will contribute to Arlington Assembly’s winning tradition marked by strong customer focus, innovative thinking and teamwork.”

If you want our frank opinion, we'll be euphoric when they won't have to call in so many cars for various faults and malfunctioning parts.

So far, GM has been pumping around $2 billion in manufacturing improvements at Arlington Assembly, as part of a larger $5.4 billion stake meant to boost US manufacturing over the next three years.
