General Motors has announced plans to buy a 133-year-old building in Flint, Michigan, that company officials say it was the automaker’s birthplace.
According to CBS, General Motors North America President Mark Reuss signed an agreement Wednesday to purchase what’s believed to be GM “Factory One”, a 133-year-old and 25,000-square-foot building in Flint, Michigan.
“Flint is strong and it’s vital to the growth of GM. When Factory One is reborn, it’s going to be great and it’s going to be something we can all be proud of – GM and Flint,” Reuss told Mlive.com.
Besides buying “Factory One”, General Motors will also act as the curator for the Durant-Dort office building across the street, replacing the Flint Historical Foundation who can no longer handle the high maintenance costs.
The purchase price for both properties wasn’t disclosed.
