Toyota racing partner and tuner Gazoo has taken the wraps off a very special tuning project based on the Toyota 86 at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2013. Called the GRMN Sports FR Concept Platinum it’s named using every cool name they could think of and styled like a lot of cars rolled into one.
Gazoo has completely changed the look of the car to the point where you’d think its something completely different. The front bumper and simple headlights have a distinct retro look, evocative of the 90’s, when Japan made its mark on the sportscar market.

The design is also completely changed with a diffuser and quad exhaust that reminds us of the GT-R and a huge and probably useless rear wing.

Borrowing a page from VW’s book of how to tune small engines, Gazoo has given the 2-liter boxer both a supercharger and a turbocharger, delivering 330 horsepower and an impressive 430 Nm of torque. Among other changes, the tuner has given the car new shocks, wheels, brakes and a set of bucket seats with racing harnesses.

Editor’s note: Looks like a Mitsubishi FTO and a Supra made love on its hood.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
