Although it wasn't exactly the best race they've had this season, the AMG DTM teams made their debut on the first ever Russian soil race, on the newly-built Moscow Raceway.
“We managed to secure vital points today, against the odds. That was damage limitation.” said the Euronics Mercedes AMG C-Coupe driver. “I'm quite happy with fifth place, since there was nothing more doing today. I got off to a good start and was able to move up a few places, but unfortunately, we just didn’t have the pace of the front-runners. My race was mainly with Jamie, whom I was able to overtake just before the end, luckily. We have secured vital points today.”
Gary Paffett is third in the driver standings after this race, while Mercedes-Benz is second in the constructor's championship, with 188 points against BMW's 217.
The First ever Moscow Raceway race was won by Mike Rockenfeller from Audi, who is still number one in the driver standings, with 94 points, against BMW's Bruno Spengler (67 points) and Mercedes' Gary Paffett (57 points).
The seventh race in the 2013 DTM season will take place at the Nurburgring, during the 17-18 August weekend. Since it's Mercedes' somewhat home race, maybe the fate of the driver and manufacturer championships is not yet sealed and the tri-star cars will recover more ground.
