Hama Unveils Solar GPS Receiver

GPS units are usually quite expensive because clients obviously pay for both the device and for the mapping software installed on it. However, some people can't simply afford buying one of these expensive GPS devices, so cheaper ones instantly become the only alternative. Hama promises that its Solar GPS Receiver is able to totally replace a standalone navigation system, providing almost the same features as a separate unit.

First of all, it comes with Bluetooth support which obviously requires you to pair it with a Bluetooth-able device (be it a laptop, mobile phone or computer) in order to get driving directions. Once connected, the receiver lets you search for a certain location and see directions straight on the connected device.

But what's more important is that it has an impressive 30-hour battery lifetime, with the ability of expanding it using the pre-installed solar panel that automatically recharges the Li-ion battery with the help of solar power (the manufacturer says the battery provides 45 mA without solar power and 30 mA with it). However, note that it has a working temperature of -20 to 80 Celsius degrees.

Battery recharging can be done using the integrated USB port or through the special car adapter, which by the way is sold separately. Beside all of these, Hama's Receiver is made of a waterproof case that provides extra-protection to the device.

And because we're sure you're looking for the price, you should probably know that the Bluetooth-able GPS receiver can be purchased for as little as 80 euros, which is quite a bargain when compared to stand-alone GPS devices.
