NASCAR to Test Fuel Injection in July

Fuel Injection engines are widely spread throughout the world. Whether they are fitted onto cars, motorcycles, scooters, trucks or any other motorized vehicles, engines with fuel injection helped them become what they are today - berserk performance powerplants that propel the world’s fastest machines.

Although mostly every motor racing series moved forward and adopted fuel injection, some branches remain rather conservatory. This is the case of NASCAR. The long-standard engine tech remains foreign territory in the North American series, the sport that has been using carburetors since the racing series began way back in 1949. But things are about to change later this year.

NASCAR stated on its official website that fuel injection will be tested at Kentucky Speedway on July 7. The date was carefully chosen due to the fact that on that same day, the Cup Series started racing. NASCAR has given racing teams an extra four hours of testing on the Thursday before the race.

Danny Lawrence, chief engine builder for Earnhardt-Childress Racing Engines, is hoping that NASCAR will come up with specifications in order to allow the teams to prepare. He added: "I know they're working on it really hard, and hopefully, they'll have it figured out in a few days."

McLaren and Freescale Semiconductor joined in to help NASCAR develop and manufacture engine control units to manage fuel injection systems. Wiring harness has been already developed and the next step will refer to fuel-injector specifications. A question still remains on most team’s lips and that is if NASCAR will manage to provide fuel injection for engines that everyone must use.
