Back in the 90s, the E36 M3 had a hard time keeping up with the lighter Porsche 911s. That caused the BMW enthusiasts to ask the German manufacturer to release a special edition M3 that was lighter than standard.
The response was the LTW M3 (LTW standing for Lightweight, somewhat the predecessor of the E46 CSL). This car indeed lighter than the standard model, due to a series of innovative measures took by the Bavarian group.

The cars came without radios, AC units, leather seats, tool kits, sun roofs, the doors had aluminum skins, the under hood insulation was removed and the trunk had special insulation, thinner that regular to lower the weight even further.

All these added up to around 200-300 pounds saved and a certain different feel. As for the exterior design, the trademark feature was a checkered flag painted in M's colors at the front left side of the car and rear right side.

Following in the footsteps of one of the rarest M3s, the owner of the E46 M3 we're looking at today decided to pay homage to this beautiful car. When the time came for his car to be repainted, he decided to do a checkered flag on his car but in carbon, instead of M's colors.

The end result in Frozen Stahl Grey is beautiful and congratulations are certainly in order for this amazing creation that took 3 weeks to be done. A long time but certainly worth it.
