BMW have confirmed to autoexpress.co.uk that they will be bringing their front-wheel drive 1-Series GT to Paris - more or less indirectly. The British publication asked Dr. Klaus Draeger, a BMW board member, if the Bavarian brand would be bringing the front-wheel drive car to Paris, receiving the rather ambiguous reply “I am not going to contradict you!
This means that BMW will be officially showing off the first BMW-badged car in the marque’s history. A turning point for them, surely, especially in the eyes of their hard-core fans who will not take this lightly, probably saying that since BMW already own Mini, and we now have an entire range of Mini-badged models, one more would definitely not have been a problem and would have left the BMW name untarnished.

Apparently, the car will have a mini-MPV shape, to boost interior space and practicality and will feature a new platform platform which is both larger and lighter than that of the current Mini. Furthermore, this will probably be the first Beamer where you will not be able to get your seat as low as you’d like, especially after driving other BMW models.

However, they will not be making underpowered versions of their MPV (like most other manufacturers who have at least one engine in the range that is too small) - the car will have at least 100 hp, from a selection of 1.5-liter three-pot petrol and diesel engines, as well as possibly larger engines (the 2.0-liter diesel, for instance). Also, to further differentiate it from Mini, BMW will offer their 8-speed automatic gearbox - the Mini gets only six gears.
