The hatchbacks of the B-segment are preparing for a battle that will take place a few years from now. While Ford is developing the next-generation Fiesta, Citroen is also working on an all-new C3.
Our friends at CarPix have supplied us with a fresh set of spyshots portraying the upcoming Citroen C3. The hatchback has a five-door configuration, and it is expected to come to market in late 2017.
Citroen engineers have been spotted by our spy photographers while testing the heavily camouflaged prototype in hot weather conditions, somewhere in Southern Europe.
By the look of the roads and scenery, we believe the images you can see in the photo gallery of this article have been captured somewhere in Spain, and a sign on the side of the road reveals that the route is somewhere in the Andalusia region of the country.
Since Citroen’s racing department was kind enough to publish a photo gallery of the prototype of the upcoming C3 WRC, we already had an idea of how the next French hatchback will look.
The version designed for regular people will share the bold design of the front end, while bumpers and wheel arches will not feature the same design tweaks.
We have to admit Citroen seems to have done a good job with the shape of this vehicle, as it is easy to recognize even with a thick layer of camouflage. The new C3 will feature a new range of engines, as well as a new platform, probably sourced from its sibling, the Peugeot 208.
Since Citroen will race the C3 in the WRC championship starting with the 2017 season, we expect the French company to take advantage of this position and launch a more powerful version of the model that shares its name and design with the racing car.
The Citroen brand, unfortunately, forgot to benefit from Sebastien Loeb’s fantastic results in WRC, and did not even bother launching performance-oriented versions of the street cars that shared their names and general designs with the WRC models. And no, the Citroen C4 "By Loeb" does not count.
