Snowmobilers in certain regions in both Canada and the United States will benefit this fall from nearly 60 seminars that promote avalanche education, aimed at helping riders stay clear from potential hazards and out of harm's way.
23 such seminars will take place in Cana and 34 in the US, stretching until the 23rd of November. The Canadian seminars will be conducted by Jeremy Hanke, a top-level avalanche professional and member of the Canadian Avalanche Association (CAA) advisory board.

Hanke is also the creator of Throttle Decisions, a seven-part documentary that details the factors that can protect a rider from the nasty, and often fatal consequences of avalanches.

In the US, the BRP seminars will be held by Mike Duffy, and expert in avalanche awareness, and who teaches at the Colorado Mountain College and Silverton Avalanche School. Duffy comes with 25 years of experience in mountain riding and mountain rescue experience, and this is the fifth year working on avalanche safety with BRP.

An avalanche is a deadly enemy

Avalanches are arguably the worst thing that can befall a rider in the mountains. Dozens of people in the US alone lose their lives after being caught in avalanches, either crushed by the tumbling snow or suffocated trapped underneath the thick layer of packed snow.

Knowing how to ride better and how to spot early signs that an area might not be stable turns out to be a life-saving asset. With the snow already settling in the high mountain regions, improving one's snowmobile riding surely looks like a sound choice. You can check the BRP Avalanche Safety Seminar schedule following the link. All seminars are free.
