Before we delve into this story any further, let's look at what the smart brand represents. Daimler's crazy idea for a city car has its own little niche market, filled with things like electric mobility, urban chic and special editions with wings. As an everyday car, few people look at them in a serious way.
But that could soon change. smart has teamed up with another specialist in urban transportation, Renault. The French have been selling Clios since 1990 and together they've been working on two new sizes of city car. For smart, that means a new fortwo and a new forfour.

Before they are ready to put the cars into production, smart have taken to the Frankfurt Motor Show and launched a new concept called the fourjoy. This previews not only their new design language, but also a successor to the forfour.

Daimler AG head of design Gordon Wagener says the concept shows the appearance of our four-seater production smart. Even by smart standards, it's quite small – length: 3494mm/width: 1978mm / height: 1494mm. Yet as you can see, it comfortably seats four people.

As a pure design, the fourjoy is fascinating. It has no doors, no roof and bucket seats are so white they look like angelic thrones.

We'll have to wait until next year to see if the real forfour measures up to this fantastic concept.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
