Former AMD Exec to Lead Ener1

There seems to be a lot of love going on between IT companies and the more recent electric vehicle and battery manufacturers. Whereas last year news of all sorts of IT industry execs getting a role in Tesla Motors, now it's time for the suppliers of the EV sector to snatch a few brilliant minds.

EnerDel, the lithium-ion battery systems subsidiary of Ener1, together with the mother company announced on Monday the appointment of Christopher L. Cowger, the former corporate vice president and general manager for the IT giant Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), to two key positions within the organization.

Cowger will take over the position of president of Ener1, as well as that of CEO of EnerDel. The new executive comes with a fair amount of managerial expertise, having been employed in key positions in both the IT and auto industry for more than 10 years. His former employers include GM, Dell and AMD.
Cowger is a graduate in electrical engineering and business administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

"In Chris we have an exceptionally talented and innovative business leader with the sales, marketing and operations capability to help take our company to the next level," said Ener1 chairman and CEO, Charles Gassenheimer.

"While rising quickly through three of the most important manufacturers of our times, he has demonstrated an ability to imbue an organization with a razor-sharp customer focus perfectly suited for Ener1's commitment to delivering the precise technology solution for every client in each of our three business verticals."
