Ford to Upgrade Crossover Plant Near Torronto

American manufacturer Ford is considering plans to upgrade an assembly facility near Toronto. Also the manufacturer has discussed the project with the Government of Canada and Ontario but has not requested financial support officially.The Ontario minister of economic development and trade, Sandra Pupatello confirmedthat a proposed retooling of the Oakville plant, west of Torronto, had come up in ongoing talks with Ford.

There were no more comments made regarding the project but said generally the provence is prepared to offer support in order to keep the nation’s auto industry up and running at a competitive level.

“We're very interested in keeping this sector very healthy and we know that it is a competitive world out there, that other jurisdictions are prepared to spend far more than we ever have to create an industry,"
Sandra Pupatello Ontario’s minister of economic development and trade was quoted as saying by Autonews.com

Ford has approached Ottawa and Ontario for financial assistance to retool the Oakville facility to broaden the types of vehicles it can manufacture, the project could cost apporximatly $521million.

"We meet as a company regularly with government officials," Ford Canada CEO David Mondragon was quoted as saying by the aforementioned.

Also, talks have included Ford’s desire to assemble other vehicles in Canada that it can sell internationally. The Oakville plant curently produces crossover utilty vehicles, including the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX. Also the company has for the past two years about the posibility of broadening output to incorporate a so-called global vehicle platform.
