Ford Reports Rising Sales of F-150 V6 EcoBoost

It looks like the decision of switching from V8 to a V6 powerplant Ford took five years ago has finally payed off. Some questions existed that time regarding the V6’s power, and whether the engine would be durable enough to compete with the V8 legend. Still, the V6 sounded more attractive in matter of costs and fuel consumption and time has proven Ford right.

Ford executives approved the plan in 2006 beginning to manufacturing of the EcoBoost engine that would be suitable for the F-150. Engineers from Ford were challenged in building a V6 engine that could top its bigger brother  in matter of performance, durability and fuel economy. Eric Kuehn, Ford’s chief engineer at that time recals manufacturing many of the engine’s pieces.

The final result was a high-performance turbocharged EcoBoost V6 that had loads of power improved and fuel economy. The V6 produces 365 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque(approx. 569Nm). When Ford rolled out the F-150 in May the pickup had an amazing success which added at the rising sales figures which rose during the following moths. The manufacturer sold 41 percent of the F-150 with the EcoBoost engine and 15 percent of the trucks were fitted with the base 3.7-liter V6.

“A redneck will buy an EcoBoost when they’re told by a knowledgeable salesperson that this thing has more horsepower, torque and better fuel economy than a V8. They’ll buy it,” Martin Gubbels, owner of Big Sky Ford-Lincoln in Torrington, Wyoming was quoted as saying by autoguide.com
