The 254,084 vehicles moved by the Blue Oval in the United States the former month translate to a 3 percent overall sales increase compared to May 2013. As for retail sales, Ford managed to vend 174,899 automobiles - an increase of 6 percentage points.
John Felice, Ford's U.S. vice president of marketing, sales and service, declared that the "Fusion and Escape had their best months ever, which helped us to our stingiest May result since May 2004." Closely following the aforementioned were the Explorer mid-size sports utility vehicle and the Lincoln MKZ luxury sedan.

In total, the Ford Fusion managed to set an all-time monthly record this May by moving 33,881 units, most of them sold in the West region. The Ford Escape also posted a record retail sales month due to the 31,896 units sold, while the Explorer moved 20,346 vehicles - a 21 percent increase over May 2013. Ford's halo sports car - the outgoing Mustang, managed to sell 84,361 units.

Lincoln - the Blue Oval's luxury brand, reported it had sold 8,845 automobiles this May, which translates in a 21 percent increase. The MKZ posted its best sales performance ever thanks to the 3,714 units moved. Even though the brand spanking new Lincoln MKC just made it into Lincoln showrooms, no less than 677 units of the luxury crossover were sold during the final weekend of May 2014.

Ford's Utilities division reported a modest 0.5 percentage points increase, the best-seller being the Police Interceptor Utility vehicle, moving 2,277 units. As for the Ford-branded trucks, the heavy truck range sold 738 vehicles (41.4 percent increase over May 2013), while the F-Series pickup lineup sold 68,520 units.
