Force India Confirm Buurman, da Costa for Abu Dhabi Test

As the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is approaching this weekend, so is the post-season testings session in which rookies will get the chance to get behind the wheel of a Formula One car for the first time in their lives. Of course, with the title fight and everything, there is little coverage on this topic, but yesterday Force India announced their official rookie drivers lineup for the Abu Dhabi test.

Sitting inside an F1 car for the first time in their professional lives will be former GP2 Asia Series driver Yelmer Buurman (Netherlands), joined by the youngest Portuguese driver to ever race an F1 challenger, 19-year old Antonio Felix da Costa.

Buurman competed in the Superleague Formula last year, after failing to find a commitment inside the GP2 Main Series. Da Costa, on the other hand, debuted in the F3 Euroseries in 2010 and became champion of the series in the same year.

We are pleased to be able to offer Yelmer and Antonio the opportunity to test an F1 car, which they both feel will be brilliant exposure and experience at this early stage in their career. Paul will set the benchmark times so they can assess their own performance and see how to work within a top level team,” said Otmar Szafnauer, chief operating officer of Force India.

Needless to say, both drivers were ecstatic about the prospect of driving a Formula One car, even if they have a long way before even hoping to book a ticket in the Great Circus.

I am unbelievably happy with this chance. It is an honour to be the next Dutch racing driver to get the chance to test an excellent F1 car. F1 remains my ultimate goal and testing for such a good team like Force India F1 Team is a dream come true,” said Buurman.

Now I can say that I will drive for the Force India F1 Team in this test, it will be a memorable day in my career and I hope the first of many more at the wheel of a Formula 1 car. Force India is a fierce and very consistent team, with lots of ambition, that has been evolving throughout the last few years, so I expect to have a good performance and be able to show my potential,” added da Costa.0
