The much-debated Fisker Karma plug-in hybrid will finally hit the streets next year in May or June, after entering production in late 2009. Russel Datz, a Fisker spokesperson, said the company has already received 1,400 orders for the car so, in case you decide to pre-order one right now, you'll only receive it in late summer 2010, according to a report by greentechmedia.com.
“To date we have met all development milestones and are on target to start delivering the first cars later this year,” said in March Bernhard Koehler, COO at Fisker Automotive.
Fisker Karma, which made its first public appearance at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show, will be priced at 78,780 euros, without VAT, and will be sold in Europe through a dealership network of 40 stores.
“Dealer selection criteria includes a strong and sustained record in retailing premium cars, great customer satisfaction, location and of course an empathy with and an understanding of the market in which they represent us. Most of all we want them to share our vision and excitement for Fisker vehicles and the very positive dynamic it will bring to the automobile market,” said Vic Doolan, Member of the Board of Directors at Fisker Automotive.
The car is powered by both an electric powertrain and a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that provides a total range of 482 km/300 miles. In all electric mode, the car covers an area of 80.5 km/50 miles. In terms of engine performance, Karma can reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than six seconds, with top speed rated at 201 km/h (125 mph).
