Fisichella Will Contest in the 2010 Le Mans Series

Giancarlo Fisichella may not have found a race driving role with any Formula One team prior to the start of the 2010 season, but the Italian has great plans to continue his racing career elsewhere. According to the official site of the Le Mans Series, the 37-year old Roman will contest in the 2010 edition of the championship on a full programme.

However, the site did not give any details on the team or car that he will contest for this year, or the class that he will submit his entry to. Also, when we tried to enter the Ferrari website to find some more info on this report, there was nothing there.

Therefore, it seems the Scuderia is keeping things quite secret for the time being. The Italian driver will most likely drive a Ferrari car in 2010, with one of the company's existing partners in the LMS. However, even if he will be offered a Maserati drive for the 2010 LMS campaign, it will still be in either the GT1 or GT2 class.

Until a couple of weeks ago, Fisichella was in contention for a driving role with BMW Sauber F1 team, where he would have partnered rookie driver Kamui Kobayashi for the 2010 season. Ferrari – whose test driver Fisichella is, for a period of 10 years – held the necessary discussions with Peter Sauber, offering the experienced “Fisico” alongside the powertrain for the new season.

However, the Swiss outfit choose Pedro de la Rosa for the 2010 race seat, as the Spaniard benefited from more sponsorship money than his Italian rival. Backed by Grupo Santander, the former McLaren tester secured the Sauber job, and already began testing the team's 2010 challenger in Valencia, this week.

As for Fisichella, we'll keep you updated with his future programme in the LMS, as soon as we have all the missing pieces of his future campaign.
