Fisichella Sad for Disappointing Ferrari Stint

As he hasn't yet secured a racing spot next year, some of us may very well consider that the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was the last time we'd get to see Giancarlo Fisichella in a Formula One outfit. As announced by Ferrari earlier this year, the Roman driver will become test and reserve driver for the prancing horse starting 2010, for an alleged 10-year period of time.

Although expected to make a big impact in the F60 starting with the Italian GP in late September, Fisichella ended his 5-race stint with Ferrari without a single point in his pocket. While paying tribute to the lack of experience in the KERS-powered Ferrari during the first couple of races, Fisico was then a victim of Ferrari's sudden change of focus towards their 2010 challenger.

In addition, the Italian team also lost the 3rd place in the constructors' standings during the Abu Dhabi finale, as neither Fisichella nor teammate Kimi Raikkonen brought home a single point after the race at Yas Marina Circuit last Sunday. Consequently, a single point separated the prancing horse from 3rd place finishers McLaren Mercedes in the overall standings.

Although admitting that he has no regrets over accepting to drive for Ferrari earlier in the season, Fisichella was seen dropping a few tears following his disappointing performance in Abu Dhabi.

I am sorry that I wasn't able to contribute to the team in terms of points and to have not really shown my worth. Unfortunately, the F60 is very difficult to drive, especially in qualifying, and starting from the back is always a big penalty. Now the time has come to think of the future; I do not yet know if I will get a race drive with a team, but what is certain is that I will be a Ferrari driver and I am happy about that,” said Fisichella after the final race of the season.

Although he signed the reserve-driver deal with Ferrari in September, the 36-year old driver revealed that his new team would allow him to continue his F1 career for an additional year if he gets an offer from any other team in the paddock. As confirmed by Fisico, a return to Force India for 2010 is not out of the question.
