Talking to the Italian media yesterday, Fisico admitted that he is eyeing a race-driving contract for next year, but only if Ferrari will allow him to.
“If Ferrari is in agreement, in 2010 I could race with another team,” the 36-year old Roman was quoted as saying to the media.
His hunger for racing is still high, especially since he scored his maiden pole position and podium finish for Force India after 2 years of struggling in the rear of the F1 field. Now that he'll finally get his chance to drive a Ferrari in the series – even if only for a short period of time – the boost in confidence will more than likely make him want to stay in the series for at least another year.
Known to be very open to suggestions regarding their drivers' spare time, Ferrari would actually benefit from Fisichella's potential drive for another team next year. That way, if the Roman needs to replace on of the Scuderia's drivers during the season, he'll be well-prepared for it.
“There are no clauses that would prevent him from racing with another team,” said Domenicali in an interview with Italy's Gazzetta dello Sport. In addition, he said he would be pleased to see Fisichella active beyond 2009, as “he would remain trained” for a potential Ferrari drive.
As for a future comeback to Force India in 2010 – following his incredible performances for Vijay Mallya's team 2 weekends ago, at Spa – the Indian billionaire made it very clear he has no plans of re-signing Fisico in the future.
