The aforementioned team announced that it will field 3 racing crews during the upcoming season of the LMS, their first full-time campaign in the championship. Giancarlo Fisichella and Jean Alesi will team up in Toni Vilander's supported team, while the other two teams will consist of Luis Perez Companc/Matias Russo and Gianmaria Bruni/Jaime Melo respectively.
After failing to secure a drive in the 2010 season of Formula One, Fisichella will therefore make his official debut in GT competitions for Ferrari. His teammate, former Ferrari-an Jean Alesi, has already tested his new F430 GTC in late 2009, and looks forward to the challenge.
“Coming back to racing in a Ferrari after many years is not just a great pleasure, but especially a great honor. I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of a car I already tested in Fiorano a couple of months ago. I want to thank Amato Ferrari for the opportunity and I hope I can deliver some great show to our fans,” said Alesi.
“I’m very happy that I can participate in the AF Corse’s programme and I hope that I can give back the trust they have in me. Obviously I would have taken the opportunity to race in the Formula, if it had been under the right circumstances, but it didn’t happen. I’m happy to be part of the Ferrari family as a third driver,” added the Roman driver.
Fisico's next step will be to test the new Ferrari F430 GTC prior to the season opening round at Paul Ricard, on April 11. The first official test of the 2010 LMS is scheduled for March 7, but it's expected that the Roman driver will drive the car prior to that date, on one of the circuits in the Maranello complex.
