The G90, the first model to be launched under Hyundai's new Genesis sub-brand, doesn't come out into the world until January when it will debut at the Detroit Motor Show. The fact that it hasn't been publicly unveiled yet doesn't keep it from winning accolades, though.
The large luxury sedan's looks impressed the jury at the 2015 GOOD DESIGN Awards. Design professionals such as architects, experts and cultural leaders gathered in New York to pick the best among thousands of submissions from manufacturers and graphic firms from 47 countries.

“Genesis focuses on articulating brand values through exemplary design - a characteristic which will be evident in all of our future range of models. This early endorsement of our approach bodes well for our future product line-up,” said Byung-Seob Lee, Senior Vice President and Head of the Hyundai Design Center.

Hyundai hopes to establish Genesis as a strong competitor for BMW and Mercedes in the US market. The Korean premium sub-brand is built on a solid foundation. The current Hyundai Genesis model has surpassed the Audi A6 in sales and ranked fourth in the US premium large car segment for Q1-Q3 2015.

Americans bought 24,423 Genesis sedans in the first three quarters of 2015. That's a growth of 9%, year-to-year. In fact, out of the top eight premium large sedans, Hyundai's offering is the only one to register growth in 2015.

Four Hyundai models were recognized for their styling at the 2015 GOOD DESIGN Awards, in addition to the Genesis G90: the soon-to-be-launched IONIQ EV, Tucson, Elantra and Santa Cruz truck concept.

The Prestige Design Division is responsible for the G90 and for creating the visual identity of all new Genesis models. Hyundai plans to launch six Genesis models by 2020 under the supervision of Chief Design Officer Peter Schreyer, who will by joined by former VW Group designer Luc Donckerwolke, from mid-2016.

The Korean car maker promises that the Genesis model line-up will distinguish itself from competitors by offering a unique customer experience. Don't all premium manufacturers promise the same?
