Fiat to Launch New Panda in 2011

Italian carmaker Fiat will roll out the new Panda in 2011, after CEO Sergio Marchionne decided to suspend new car launches between October 2008 and December 2009 in a move to counteract the economic recession. Marchionne thus delayed the introduction of several models, including the new Panda and the long-awaited Alfa Romeo Giulietta.

But according to autocar.co.uk, the new Panda will arrive in 2011, the first year when Marchionne expects the auto sector to show more significant signs of recovery.

“That's the reason why I think we intelligently postponed a number of our programs to make sure that it coincided with what I consider to be a structural recovery in demand in 2011 and later years,” he was quoted as saying by the source.

The Panda was refreshed back in September 2009 when the company introduced an upgraded model presenting several interior and exterior enhancements.

The engine lineup was including several gasoline and diesel engines available, with power ranging in between 54 and 100 horsepower, but alternative power sources will most likely be offered as well, including LPG. A 1.2-liter is also included in the lineup, developing 69 horsepower and complying with Euro 5 regulations. It releases only 113 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The engines are mated to either a manual or a Dualogic transmission.

Fiat Panda was officially rolled out in 2003 and is currently offered with 4 engine configurations (without taking into account the units available on the special versions launched through time). There is a 1.1-liter gasoline option developing 54 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 88 Nm of torque at 2,750 rpm, helping the car go from naught to sixty in 15 seconds.
