News of Lapo Elkann's - the youngest grandson of Gianni Agnelli, founder of Italian giant Fiat and one of the carmaker's possible heirs - latest drugs, prostitutes, and alcohol extravaganza broke out earlier this week.

The flashy Italian went to New York for Thanksgiving Day, but he definitely wasn't there eat turkey and be thankful to the early pilgrims. Soon after touching ground in the Big Apple, he got in touch with a male escort, went into a housing project in Manhattan and could not be seen coming out for two days straight.

It looks like his partying involved considerable quantities of drugs - the NYPD named cocaine and marijuana - and alcohol. So considerable, in fact, that Mr. Elkann soon needed more money to cover their cost, so he came up with a cunning plan of extorting some cash from his rich family.

Elkann impersonated his kidnapper as he called his family and asked for $10,000 in cash. The money was supposed to be delivered to a certain drop spot, but the police could see through his plan, so instead of picking up the $10,000, Elkann got himself arrested.

We [the police] just knew something wasn’t right. We could tell his story was made up. It just wasn’t making sense,” a police source said, quoted by PageSix.com. Well, that's the thing when you're inebriated: you tend to make stupid decisions, and when there's nobody sober around to stop you, you actually go through with them.

It isn't the first time the rockstar-like life of the 39-year-old gets public after back in 2005 he was found in a coma in Turin following a cocaine overdose. He managed to overcome that episode, but it looks like now his family has had enough. "His lifestyle: the drugs and hookers and stuff,” are mentioned as the reasons which made the Agnellis lose their patience with Lapo Elkann.

The family usually puts him on lockdown after something like this,” the same source claimed, which is a natural reaction given their high profile. He is scheduled for an arraignment on January 25, but he'll likely keep a low profile in the meantime.
