Fiat has just announced it has added a fresh diesel engine to its range of 500L MPVs. The 1.6 MultiJet II with 120 hp is supposed to offer great fuel economy and long intervals between servicing, being available from €21,525 on the regular 500L, €23,844 on the 500L trekking and €22,281 for on the 7-seater 500L Living.
The 1.6 liter turbodiesel offers common rail injection and supposedly has advanced sensors that can make 8 adjustments per combustion cycle. Power is rated at 120 hp, which is the same as Honda's 1.6 DTEC diesel and 10 hp more than the most powerful Renault 1.5 dCi. Torque is also good: 320 Nm at just 1,500 rpm.
The 500L with this engine gets from 0 to 100 km/h in 10.7 seconds and has a top speed of 189 km/h. Average fuel consumption is 4.6 l/100km combined and CO2 emissions are 120 g/km. The Trekking and Living are slightly slower but consumption is largely the same. If you fancy a bit of Italian, you can find the specs in the attached file below.
