Fiat 500 Wins City Car of the Year Award in the UK

Fiat’s undeniably cute 500 has started the year well, by winning yet another award. The retro-designed supermini, now in it’s forth year of UK sales, still manages to impress both customers and journalists, as it managed to earn its third consecutive ‘City Car of the Year’ title in the 2011 BusinessCar Awards.

Winning awards is nothing new for the little Fiat, but this one was special, as it was judged by the British magazine’s readers, not a panel of journalist, thus reflecting the opinions of the UK market.

“Fiat’s 500 has once more proved that business cars can make sense to both the head and the heart. The 500 has great residual values and running costs combined with the ability to put smiles on faces, making it the perfect city car for the corporate market, something BusinessCar readers obviously echo in voting the 500 City Car of the Year,” says Paul Barker, editor of BusinessCar.

The 500 clearly fits the definition of an urban runabout, since it fits in well with the daily commute, is designed to park into the tightest city spots and doesn’t make too many demands on your budget. The 500 scores on all counts, but also adds retro styling into the mix. With a starting price of £9,665 ($15,250), it offers good value for money as well.

“Three consecutive awards and three consecutive wins in the City Car category – that’s wonderful news and a great tribute to the Fiat 500, which continues to sell well both to private customers and into fleets. We will never tire of receiving awards for this remarkable car and this latest accolade from BusinessCar and its readers is very welcome,” says Andrew Humberstone, managing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK and Ireland.
