FIA Confirms 2012 WRC Calendar

The International Automobile Federation (FIA) has finally approved the calendar for the 2012 World Rally Championship, although the exact dates of the running will be set at a later date.

While everyone in the WRC is keeping a close eye on the action in Rally Jordan – due to the canceling of the first day of action – the FIA took the time to confirm the 12 countries that will make the calendar next year, two of which are pending further FIA approval.

One of those events noted by the FIA with an asterisk is Rally Abu Dhabi, set to open the action in the 2012 WRC campaign. The event organizers are still trying to set up a definitive format for the rally, which may run a long-distance, multi-country scheme.

Secondly, there's the Rally Great Britain, 5th round of the 2012 calendar, which is “subject to confirmation and approval of the Event Business Plan.”

Further mentions on the 2012 rounds includes Rally Argentina, which organizers have confirmed as a long-distance event, and the season finale round held by Sweden and Norway.

Here's the complete calendar of the 2012 WRC:

Abu Dhabi *
Argentina (long distance event)
Finland
France
Great Britain *
Germany
Greece
Mexico
New Zealand
Portugal
Spain
Sweden - Norway
